| Obverse description | The papal coat of arms of Pope Paul VI occupies the central field, depicting a pointed shield charged with fleurs-de-lis and architectural elements, surmounted by the papal tiara and flanked by the crossed keys of Saint Peter. The shield is rendered in high relief with fine heraldic detail and draped mantling at the sides. The engravers' signatures T. GISMONDI and C. MONASSINEL appear in small incuse lettering at the base of the design. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery, separated by small star ornaments, identifying the pontiff and the regnal year in Roman numerals. |
