| Beschrijving voorzijde | Intaglio portrait of Mercury in right profile, wearing his characteristic winged helmet, rendered after a classical sculptural model, occupies the right portion of the face. The centre bears the large numeral '500' in bold letterpress, flanked by three signature lines for the Direttore Generale del Tesoro, the Cassiere Speciale, and the Corte dei Conti representative. A fine guilloche rosette and a circular watermark void appear to the left, set against a multicolour geometric underprint in teal, gold, and blue across the upper field. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | An allegorical intaglio vignette at the left depicts Mercury as a dynamic winged figure astride a winged horse, caduceus raised, surrounded by elaborate scrollwork and ornamental flourishes in a baroque compositional style. Two large circular guilloche medallions dominate the centre and right of the field, printed in contrasting teal and warm rose tones against a finely engraved wave-pattern underprint. The denomination lettering 'CINQUECENTO LIRE' appears across the lower portion, with a legislative reference printed vertically along the right margin. |
