Additional information

San Marino issued a run of themed silver commemoratives throughout the 1980s, parceling out collector revenue as a meaningful share of its national income — a fiscal strategy the republic leaned on heavily before euro-era reforms changed the calculus. The 1988 Winter Games were held in Calgary, and San Marino sent no athletes to compete there.
