Obverse description The denomination '500 LIRA' is displayed prominently in the centre of the field, enclosed within a wreath composed of two wheat ears to the left and an olive branch to the right, their stems crossing at the base. The Turkish crescent and star emblem appears in the upper portion of the field, above the wreath opening. The circular legend 'TÜRKİYE CUMHURİYETİ' (Republic of Turkey) runs along the periphery, interrupted at the top by the crescent-and-star device.

Reverse description A group of multiracial children are depicted dancing in a ring, joining hands in a scene symbolising international unity and peace. Above the figures, a stylised cityscape featuring the silhouette of the Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmed Mosque) of Istanbul provides a distinctly Turkish backdrop. Relevant organisational logos appear in the lower portion of the field alongside the date. The circular legend 'ULUSLARARASI ÇOCUK YILI 1979' (International Year of the Child 1979) frames the design along the periphery.
