Chameria refers to a region of northwestern Greece historically inhabited by an Albanian-speaking Muslim population expelled by Greek nationalist forces in 1944–45. The issue of roughly 20,000 displaced persons remains one of the more politically charged unresolved disputes between Albania and Greece, and Albania has periodically raised it before international bodies without resolution. That a commemorative coin was struck on the subject in 2020 reflects the Albanian government's continued use of the Chameria question as an active diplomatic pressure point rather than a settled historical matter.
