The 2007 series was Albania's first substantial post-communist redesign to incorporate fully modern intaglio printing standards, replacing the transitional issues of the 1990s that had been hastily produced amid the country's financial collapse — most infamously, the pyramid scheme crisis of 1997, which wiped out the savings of roughly two-thirds of the population and briefly destabilized the government itself.

P#72 sits at the top of the circulating denomination range for this series. The security specification is modest by contemporary European standards — no color-shifting ink, no holographic strip.
