附加信息

The Treasure of Pietroasa — a hoard of 22 Gothic gold objects discovered in 1837 near Buzău — is one of the most important late antique finds in European archaeology. The hoard dates to roughly the 4th century AD and is associated with the Visigoths who occupied the region before Hunnic pressure drove them westward. The specific piece commemorated here, the large fibula (the "big gold clip"), is among the most technically accomplished objects in the hoard and has been housed in the National History Museum of Romania since its recovery.

Romania's 2001 gold commemorative series drew directly on this material heritage at a moment when the country was actively repositioning its national identity in the post-communist period.
