| Obverse description | The coat of arms of Malawi is depicted in high relief at the center of the inner field, flanked by two small floral rosettes to either side of the denomination legend. The denomination '500' appears at the top of the inner circle with 'Kwacha' in script lettering below it. The circular legend 'BANK OF MALAWI' arcs around the lower portion of the inner border. The outer annulus features twelve Chinese seal-script characters representing the animals of the Chinese zodiac, separated by a beaded inner border. |
