The Kosova mint — more accurately a field treasury operating under military supervision — struck coins during the suppression of the Albanian and Macedonian uprisings, making this issue inseparable from one of the Ottoman Empire's last serious attempts to hold its European territories by force. Kosova mint pieces are considerably scarcer than their Constantinople counterparts, as production volumes were constrained by the logistical realities of a war zone rather than any central minting policy.
