Obverse description The central field depicts a view of Zagreb Cathedral as it appeared circa 1860, rendered in bold relief against a polished proof field, showing the Romanesque-Gothic structure with its characteristic massing of nave, apse, and flanking towers. The Croatian coat of arms — the traditional red-and-white chequered shield surmounted by a crown — appears in the upper field above the cathedral. The circular legend REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA arcs along the upper rim, while the denomination 500 KUNA is prominently displayed in large numerals and lettering in the lower field.
