Denmark does not practice coronation — Margrethe II acceded to the throne on 14 January 1972 upon the death of her father Frederik IX, with no coronation ceremony. The jubilee this coin marks is her 40th anniversary on the throne, a distinction worth keeping straight. She was the first Danish monarch to take the throne under the 1953 constitutional revision that allowed female succession, which only passed after two male heirs failed to materialize.
