500 Gulden

The Bank van de Nederlandse Antillen was established in 1962, the same year this note was issued — a direct consequence of the dissolution of the Muntregeling Nederlandse Antillen arrangement and the formal separation of the island group's monetary administration from Suriname. The 500 Gulden was the highest denomination in the inaugural series, pitched at a value that made it essentially a commercial and interbank instrument rather than anything ordinary islanders handled with regularity.

Enschedé's involvement guaranteed a high standard of intaglio work, consistent with their long relationship with Dutch colonial and post-colonial territories. The watermark remains the sole listed security feature — modest by later standards, but unremarkable for a low-volume high-denomination note of this period.
