Ottawa Civic Hospital opened in 1924 and has operated continuously through expansions that have made it one of Canada's busiest trauma centers. What this coin is doing denominated in guilders — a Dutch monetary unit with no legal tender history in Canada — is a question the issuer has not satisfactorily answered.
