Paraguay's postwar constitution of 1967 restructured the Banco Central into its modern form, but the guaraní itself dates to 1943, when it replaced the peso at par under the wartime government of Higinio Morínigo. This note belongs to a long-running series that TDLR supplied across most of that stretch — London printing for Asunción was the norm throughout the Cold War decades, not the exception.
The 1982–1995 date range spans one of Paraguay's most turbulent monetary periods, covering the final years of the Stroessner dictatorship and its chaotic aftermath. Inflation remained comparatively controlled by regional standards, but the political transition after the 1989 coup introduced new pressures that eventually pushed denominations far higher.
The "Guarani value on reverse" designation in the TDLR catalog distinguishes this printing from an earlier plate variant where the value appeared differently — a small but catalogically significant difference that affects Pick classification.
