Obverse description A bare-shouldered mermaid figure, depicted from the waist upward, is shown in three-quarter left profile, raising a spiny conch shell to her lips as if blowing a call. Her long flowing hair cascades over her back, and her lower body terminates in a stylized scaly tail visible at the base. In the right field, a cluster of palm trees provides a tropical backdrop. The legend REPUBLIQUE D'HAITI arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin letters, all contained within a beaded border.
