The Bank of Central African States issues coinage on behalf of six member nations — Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon — under a monetary union whose franc zone ties date to 1945 French colonial currency arrangements. The BEAC itself was formally established in 1972. Collector issues like this one are struck under contract by foreign mints and bear no relation to circulating coinage in the region.
