| Obverse description | At centre, the First Stone marker of the Liberty Road (Voie de la Liberté), depicted as a cylindrical milestone surmounted by a row of stars and bearing an inscription plaque, with a winged flame torch motif at its base. A stylised wave-pattern background evokes the Normandy coastline and fills the upper field. The legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE arcs along the left and right periphery respectively, while VOIE DE LA LIBERTÉ and the commemorative date 1944 appear in bold relief in the upper field. The denomination 500 FRANCS and the issue year 1994 are inscribed in large characters to the right of the milestone. |
