Cameroon's commemorative coinage program, managed through the Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale, has issued collector pieces under the CFA franc system since the country's independence from French administration in 1960. The BEAC has no domestic mint and contracts production almost exclusively to European facilities — this piece almost certainly struck at Monnaie de Paris or a private European mint on behalf of the issuing authority.
The Pisces issue belongs to a broader zodiac series that flooded the collector market through the 2010s, produced by numerous African nominal issuers with little organic connection to the theme.
