Obverse description The national coat of arms of Cameroon occupies the central field, featuring a shield bearing scales of justice surmounted by a star, flanked by two crossed fasces with axe heads, and supported by a decorative cartouche. The motto is rendered bilingually in the legend surrounding the arms, reading PAIX PEACE to the left and TRAVAIL WORK at the top and PATRIE FATHERLAND to the right. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN arcs along the upper rim, with REPUBLIQUE DE CAMEROUN inscribed on the scroll below the shield. The denomination 500 FRANCS CFA is prominently displayed in the lower field, with the silver fineness mark Ag 999 and the mint mark MW also present.

Reverse description A full-color reproduction of a detail from the painting Madonna and Christ Child with Infant Saint John the Baptist and Three Angels by Domenico Ghirlandaio, executed circa 1485–1494, occupies the central field of the reverse. The scene depicts the Virgin Mary tenderly holding the Christ Child, with the Infant Saint John the Baptist and three angels arranged in reverent attendance around the holy figures. The color application faithfully renders the rich Renaissance palette and fine drapery characteristic of Ghirlandaio's Florentine style. An ornamental wreath frames the painted composition, separating it from the polished coin field.
