The Libra series, issued under Cameroon's authority but produced entirely for the collector market by European minting houses, has no connection to domestic circulation. Cameroon is a member of the CFA franc zone and has used the CFA franc as its actual currency since 1945 — these silver 500-franc pieces were never legal tender in any practical sense and were sold directly to dealers and hobby distributors.
