| Obverse description | Central device features two crossed palm fronds surmounted by a stylised spiral shell ornament, rendered in high relief against a deeply recessed mirror field. Flanking the central motif on either side are two traditional Melanesian geometric ornamental symbols. The denomination '500f' appears in the lower centre of the field. The bilingual legend 'NOUVELLES-HÉBRIDES' curves along the upper periphery and 'NEW HEBRIDES' arcs along the lower periphery, both in bold Latin lettering. |
