The Bank of Central African States issues coinage on behalf of six member nations — Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon — a currency union whose roots lie in the CFA franc system imposed by France in 1945. Most BEAC collector issues are struck by outside mints under contract, as the member states collectively operate no facility capable of producing fine silver coinage.
