Issued to mark the centenary of the House of Nassau-Weilburg's rule over Luxembourg, this 2000 release commemorates Grand Duke Henri's accession — he formally succeeded his father Jean on 7 October of that year, the first abdication in the grand duchy's modern history. Luxembourg's royal mint issues of this period were produced in strictly limited quantities primarily for collector markets, with virtually no pieces reaching general circulation.
