Obverse description Central design features the five interlocking Olympic rings, each enclosing a symbolic vignette representing a past host city: Helsinki 1952 (stadium and obelisk), Melbourne 1956 (rearing horse), Roma 1960 (she-wolf with S.P.Q.R. inscription and Olympic rings), Tokio 1964 (wrestlers or athletes in action), and Mexico 1968 (Aztec calendar motif). Above the rings, a panoramic skyline of Munich with prominent church spires and civic buildings evokes the 1972 host city, while an Olympic torch with flame appears at the base. The legend REP. DE GUINEE arcs along the upper periphery, and OLYMPIA MUNICH-1972 curves along the lower field, all within a beaded border.
