| Beschrijving voorzijde | Right-facing profile portrait of the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Khafre (Chephren), depicted in the traditional Egyptian artistic style wearing a nemes headdress with striped cloth and a broad collar necklace. A falcon, symbolizing the god Horus, perches with spread wings at the upper left behind the pharaoh's head. An ankh symbol appears in the lower right field. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE DE GUINEE arcs along the upper periphery, with the name CHEPHREN inscribed in the lower field beneath the portrait, all within a beaded border. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Guinea's 1970 commemorative series was issued under Sékou Touré's government, which had broken sharply from France in 1958 — the only francophone African territory to vote against de Gaulle's constitution and accept immediate independence over continued association. The resulting French withdrawal was punishing: technicians dismantled infrastructure, and France reportedly destroyed or removed administrative records before leaving.
The Chephren piece belongs to a broader suite honoring ancient Egyptian subjects, an odd thematic choice that reflects pan-African cultural politics of the period rather than any particular Guinean historical connection.
