| Obverse description | Central device features the coat of arms of the Republic of Benin, comprising a quartered shield supported by two leopards rampant, with the upper quarters depicting a ship and a castle tower, and the lower quarters a palm tree and a six-pointed star. The BCEAO has periodically issued collector silver outside its standard fiduciary series, typically under licensing arrangements that have little connection to the economies of its eight member states. This Mozart piece was timed to precede the 2006 commemoration of the 250th anniversary of his birth, part of a broad wave of international issues that flooded the collector market that year from jurisdictions with no historical or cultural link to the subject.
KM#72 is a low-mintage bullion-adjacent issue struck for the collector trade, almost certainly never circulated in Senegal, Mali, or anywhere else within the BCEAO zone.
