The BEAC, which functions as the common central bank for six Central African states under the franc CFA zone, has issued commemorative silver pieces with increasing frequency since the 2010s — largely targeting the collector market rather than domestic circulation. This particular subject, Mauritius Post Office stamps, references the two 1847 issues ("Post Office" and "Post Paid") that rank among the most valuable philatelic items ever recorded at auction, with single examples selling for millions of dollars. The coins themselves have no monetary relationship to Mauritius, which uses the Mauritian rupee and has no connection to the CFA franc zone.
