Obverse description The national coat of arms of Cameroon is centrally placed within a guilloche wave-pattern field, the right half of which is rendered in contrasting black colour. The arms feature a shield bearing scales of justice surmounted by a five-pointed star, flanked by crossed fasces and supported by two crossed axes, with a scroll below bearing the bilingual state name REPUBLIC OF CAMEROON / REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN. The date 2024 is positioned above the shield, and the fineness mark Ag 999 mw appears in the lower left field. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN arcs along the upper rim, whilst the denomination 500 FRANCS CFA is inscribed in bold characters along the lower rim. The bilingual state motto PAIX TRAVAIL PATRIE / PEACE WORK FATHERLAND radiates in the upper field surrounding the arms.

Reverse description A naturalistically rendered specimen of the Peacock Pansy butterfly (Junonia almana) is depicted in full dorsal spread at centre, executed in vivid polychrome colour printing that faithfully reproduces its characteristic orange and brown wing surfaces marked by prominent ocelli in blue and orange tones with black borders. The butterfly is presented as if magnified and observed through a functional convex lens inset into the coin's field, the lens element encircled by a detailed silver-finished magnifying glass with an ornate handle extending toward the right. The surrounding field is enriched with a colour-printed naturalistic background of lush tropical foliage in green tones. The scientific species name Junonia almana is inscribed in italic lettering in the upper right portion of the field.
