The Bank of Central African States issues coinage on behalf of six member nations — Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon — under a currency union whose franc CFA has been pegged to the euro since 1999, before that to the French franc at a fixed rate dating to 1948. These bullion and collector issues bear nominal face values that bear no functional relationship to their metal content or market price.
