Reverse description A full-body colorized portrait of a European Shorthair cat is depicted in the center-right field, rendered in naturalistic detail with tabby markings in brown and grey tones. To the left, a large oversized paw print impression occupies the background field, adding depth and thematic context. Three smaller paw print motifs appear in the upper right quadrant of the field. A horizontal line divides the lower portion of the reverse, below which the breed name EUROPEAN SHORTHAIR and the date 2016 are inscribed in two lines.

Additional information

Burkina Faso has no domestic cat-breeding tradition of note, and the European Shorthair as a recognized breed has essentially no cultural or historical connection to the country. These coins are contract issues struck for the collectibles market, commissioned through European intermediaries — the issuing authority is nominal, providing legal tender status in exchange for seigniorage revenue. The actual distribution never touched West African commerce.
