The Bank of Central African States issues coinage on behalf of six member nations — Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon — all sharing the CFA franc under a monetary agreement with France that dates to 1945. The BEAC's commemorative program has expanded significantly since the 2010s, targeting collector markets well outside the issuing zone.
No brown bear species is native to Central Africa, which makes the subject geographically curious for a BEAC issue.
