The date 2024 is struck above the arms, while the denomination 500 FRANCS CFA appears in bold relief along the lower arc. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN arcs around the upper periphery, and the fineness mark Ag 999 appears in the lower left field. The entire field is decorated with a wavy guilloche pattern, rendered in contrasting polished and matte relief, with the right portion of the field struck in a darker tone to create a bicolour visual effect. |

The Apatura iris, known as the Purple Emperor, is a woodland butterfly native to Europe and temperate Asia, infamous among lepidopterists for its preference for rotting matter over flowers — males actively seek carrion, dung, and muddy puddles rather than nectar.
