| Obverse description | The obverse features the coat of arms of Cameroon centrally positioned in the field, depicting a shield bearing scales of justice surmounted by a star, flanked by crossed fasces with axe heads, above a banner inscribed REPUBLIC OF CAMEROON / REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN. The national motto appears in both French and English in two registers flanking the shield: PAIX / PEACE to the left and PATRIE / FATHERLAND to the right, with TRAVAIL / WORK above. The date 2024 is struck above the arms, while the denomination 500 FRANCS CFA appears in bold relief along the lower arc. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN arcs around the upper periphery, and the fineness mark Ag 999 appears in the lower left field. The entire field is decorated with a wavy guilloche pattern, rendered in contrasting polished and matte relief, with the right portion of the field struck in a darker tone to create a bicolour visual effect. |

The Apatura iris, known as the Purple Emperor, is a woodland butterfly native to Europe and temperate Asia, infamous among lepidopterists for its preference for rotting matter over flowers — males actively seek carrion, dung, and muddy puddles rather than nectar. The Bank of Central African States issues coins for collector markets well outside its member states' borders, a financing mechanism that generates hard currency revenue largely disconnected from domestic monetary policy.
