The Bank of Central African States — the monetary authority for Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon — issued a series of commemorative silver pieces through the late 1990s that had effectively no connection to the economies they nominally represented. This Sydney 2000 issue was struck for the collector market, almost certainly by a European contract mint, and would never have seen a market stall in Yaoundé or Libreville.
