| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field depicts a dynamic figure of a male athlete in mid-stride clearing a hurdle, rendered in high relief with fine detail capturing the athleticism and motion of the track-and-field event. The legend 'XXV JEUX OLYMPIQUES' arcs along the upper periphery, referencing the 25th Olympic Games of Barcelona 1992. | Aanvullende informatie |
The Republic of the Congo issued a wave of commemorative silver pieces in the early 1990s with almost no connection to domestic monetary policy — these were foreign exchange earners, produced under contract for the international collector market and never intended to circulate in Brazzaville. The 1992 Barcelona Games generated one of the heaviest commemorative licensing booms in Olympic history, with well over a hundred issuing authorities striking coins for the program.
Congo's entry into that market came through standard arrangements with European minting contractors, a practice that rendered the issuing nation largely nominal.
