Rwanda's "Bananas" coin was part of a wave of novelty silver issues produced for the international collector market in the early 2000s — coins bearing little relationship to the issuing country's actual monetary policy or circulation needs. The Banque Nationale du Rwanda licensed its name to a European distributor, a practice common among small nations during this period seeking modest foreign exchange revenue from collector premiums.
These were never intended for domestic use and almost certainly never reached Rwanda.
