| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Rwanda is depicted centrally within a plain inner field, showing a shield bearing a knot device flanked by a coffee plant and a sprig of vegetation, surmounted by a radiant sun, with a scroll below bearing the Kinyarwanda motto. The legend REPUBLIKA Y'U RWANDA arcs above the arms and UBUMWE UMURIMO GUKUNDA IGIHUGU appears on the scroll. The outer border is decorated with a continuous zigzag or sawtooth pattern around the full circumference. To the lower left of the central motif appears a rectangular privy mark or logo containing the date 2002 and a ring of stars, associated with the Monnaie de Paris.
