The "Aries" issue belongs to a sprawling series of zodiac-themed collector coins produced for Cameroon by European minting houses — the coins have no meaningful circulation history and are sold directly into the numismatic market. Cameroon's role here is essentially that of a licensing authority; the country collects a fee for use of its name and legal tender status.
Gold-plated silver marketed as "rose gold" is a recurring point of contention among collectors of this series. The plating adds no bullion premium over spot silver.
