The BEAC issues currency on behalf of six member states — Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, and the Republic of the Congo — all sharing the CFA franc under a monetary agreement with France that dates to 1972, itself a restructuring of arrangements first imposed during the colonial period. The Adam series belongs to a modern bullion and collector program with no circulation mandate; these pieces are struck for the international numismatic market rather than for any of the member economies.
