Obverse description Printed in black and red with orange and purple underprint, the obverse centres on an oval vignette to the left bearing a bust-length portrait of a young woman in traditional Appenzell Innerrhoden folk costume. The denomination 500 appears in each corner, with trilingual bank title inscriptions in German, French, and Italian arranged across the note, and the date and place of issue at lower centre. The printer's imprint of Waterlow & Sons Limited, London appears at the foot.
