The BCEAO 500 Francs series of this period was printed by the Banque de France's printing works at Chamalières, a consistent arrangement for the zone throughout the 1970s and into the 1980s. The "T" suffix in the Pick reference designates a Togo-specific issue — the BCEAO assigned letter codes to distinguish which member state's central treasury a note was drawn against, even though the notes circulated freely across all eight member states of the West African Monetary Union.
Abdoulaye Fadiga served as BCEAO Governor from 1974 to 1988, making his signature one of the more frequently encountered on notes of this era.
