Aanvullende informatie

László I was canonized in 1192 — exactly eight centuries before this coin's issue — by Pope Celestine III, making the 1992 date a deliberate anniversary commemoration rather than an arbitrary choice. The canonization itself was politically charged: László had died in 1095 while preparing to lead the First Crusade, and his sainthood was secured partly through Hungarian royal lobbying at Rome over the intervening century.

Hungary's commemorative silver program of the early 1990s coincided with the post-communist restructuring of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, and issues from this transitional period were struck in relatively modest quantities for the European collector market.
