Jordan's Currency Board was established by the Jordan Currency Law of 1949, replacing the Palestinian pound at par as the new state needed a distinct monetary identity following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War and Jordan's annexation of the West Bank. The Currency Board arrangement — rather than a central bank — meant London held the sterling backing, and De La Rue handled both design and production entirely from their Bunhill Row works.
Pick 1 is the first note of Jordanian issue. The fils denomination structure itself was new; the subunit had to be introduced to the public alongside the currency itself.
