Beschrijving voorzijde The obverse features a faithful gold-relief reproduction of Vassily Kandinsky's seminal 1923 abstract painting 'Composition VIII', rendered in fine detail across the central field of the rectangular flan. The composition presents an intricate arrangement of geometric forms — circles, arcs, lines, triangles, and grids — characteristic of Kandinsky's Bauhaus-period style. Below the artwork, the inscription 'Composition VIII' appears at lower left and the date '1923' at lower right. To the upper right of the painting, the monogram 'RF' (République Française) is struck in large relief, and below it appears the engraved facsimile signature of Kandinsky.

Aanvullende informatie

This piece belongs to Monnaie de Paris's "Les Génies de l'Art" series, which ran through the late 2000s and early 2010s honoring artists with particular French connections. Kandinsky's link was concrete: he spent the final decade of his life in Neuilly-sur-Seine, obtaining French citizenship in 1939, just five years before his death there in 1944.

The asymmetric dimensions reflect a shaped flan — oval rather than round — a production choice that creates genuine striking challenges at this weight class and almost certainly accounts for uneven metal flow across examples.
