Eurocorps — the multinational army corps headquartered in Strasbourg — traces its origin to the Franco-German Brigade established in 1989, itself a political gesture by Kohl and Mitterrand to demonstrate that post-war reconciliation had produced something operationally real. The corps became fully operational in 1995 and has deployed to Bosnia, Kosovo, and Afghanistan under both NATO and EU command structures.
