Descrizione del dritto	A portrait vignette of the explorer Vasco da Gama is set against the Portuguese coat of arms, rendered in the central field of the note. To the right, a ship's rudder and a sailing vessel appear as secondary design elements, evoking the Age of Discovery. The obverse carries inscriptions referencing the Banco Nacional de Exploração and the date 9 de Maio de 2017, printed on polymer stock in a style reminiscent of historical Portuguese banknotes.

Descrizione del rovescio	The reverse presents a period sailing ship of the type used by Vasco da Gama on his voyage to the East Indies via the Cape of Good Hope maritime route, rendered as a central vignette. To the left, a representation of the Hindu deity Ganesh serves as a symbolic reference to the Indian subcontinent and the destination of the 1498 voyage. The inscriptions reference Calicut, the year 1498, and bear the designer's copyright notice.
