Opmerkingen

Bradbury Wilkinson produced this 500 Escudos series across an eight-year run, an unusually long active span that reflects both the stability of Salazar's Estado Novo and Portugal's cautious approach to currency renewal during the postwar period. The 8th print designation indicates successive reorder batches from the same London plates rather than a redesigned issue — Banco de Portugal relied heavily on BW throughout the mid-century, a relationship that kept Portuguese high-denomination printing firmly offshore.

BW's intaglio work on this series was among the finer British commercial engraving of the period, though the paper and watermark authentication remained the primary anti-counterfeiting mechanism in circulation.
