Obverse description The National Coat of Arms of the Republic of Armenia occupies the central field, depicting a double-headed eagle supporting a quartered shield, with a lion and an eagle as supporters, and a sword and a chain below. The date 2001 appears above the coat of arms. The denomination 500 is inscribed in large numerals in the lower field, with the word ԴՐԱՄ (Dram) immediately below. The Armenian legend ՀԱՅԱՍՏԱՆԻ ՀԱՆՐԱՊԵՏՈՒԹՅՈՒՆ (Republic of Armenia) curves along the upper periphery, and the entire design is framed by a beaded border.

Reverse description The central field depicts a detailed architectural rendering of the Government House tower in Republic Square, Yerevan, shown with the Armenian tricolor flag flying from its summit. The building is rendered in fine relief against a mirror-polished proof field. The Armenian legend ՀԱՅՈՑ ՊԵՏԱԿԱՆՈՒԹՅՈՒՆ (Armenian Statehood) arcs along the upper periphery, while the inscription 10 ՏԱՐԻՆ (10 Years) appears in the lower field, commemorating the tenth anniversary of Armenian independence. The design is framed by a beaded border.
