Additional information

Issued to mark the 1,700th anniversary of Armenia's adoption of Christianity as its state religion in 301 AD — the first nation to do so officially — this coin was released during a period when the newly independent Armenian state was actively investing in numismatic programs to assert national identity on the international collector market. The Central Bank produced several large-format silver pieces in this era, many struck by foreign mints under contract.

At 155.5 grams, the planchet required careful quality control; issues of this diameter in .925 silver are prone to edge cracking if the blank is insufficiently annealed before striking.
