Armenia's alphabet series, issued to commemorate the 1,600th anniversary of the script created by Mesrop Mashtots around 405 AD, ran to 38 coins — one for each letter. The series launched in 2012 and was struck by the Central Bank across several years. Յ, the letter "Yiwn," carries particular linguistic weight as one of the characters with no direct Greek precedent, reflecting Mashtots' deliberate construction of a script engineered to capture sounds specific to Armenian rather than borrowed from an existing model.
